Hocking Hills Area Schedule of Events

January 2012

Jan 20 - 6 pm. Join the naturalist at the Ash Cave parking area for an evening stroll back to Ash Cave. We'll discover together what makes this area so unique and poke into the history that surrounds this scenic area of the Hocking Hills. Please, no pets at the night hike. Cost: Free. Jan 21 - On the third Saturday of each month, take a scenic drive through the Hocking Hills while shopping for gifts and treasures such as handcrafted furniture, art glass, candles, quilts, wind chimes and more more! Enjoy artist demos and special discount at these unique shops. Start at a different shop each month: January, June & November: Scenic Way Gifts, 63775 St. Rt. 56, Creola 740-596-1913. Jan 21 - Annual Winter Hike at Hocking Hills, 9-11 am continuous starts from the Old Man's Cave Visitor's Center. More than 5,000 outdoor enthusiasts will participate in the Annual Hocking Hills Winter Hike. Hikers should assemble at Hocking Hills State Park Campground at any time from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Winter Hike and all pre-hike and post-hike activities are free. Donations are encouraged for the refreshments, and for the return ride to Old Man's Cave. Commemorative patches and hiking stick medallions are available for purchase. Jan 27 - 10th Annual Bowl-A-Rama at Starbrick Gallery 5-9pm. Buy the Bowl the Chili's Free The area's finest potters are spinning unique art bowls for you to fire up with our homemade chilies. Also that night Laurie Vancouver presents new Covered Casserole Dishes - beautiful functional ware from our most prolific potter. Laurie's show will run through Feb 21st. On the final Friday of every month excluding December, galleries and retail shops on Nelsonville's Historic Square stay open late to feature special art events. Enjoy artists' demonstrations, art chats, artists at work in their studios and openings of new art exhibits, plays, and musical shows. Watch drum circles, street musicians, dancers, and More. Jan 28 - Cabin Fever Cures 2 pm. Ever wonder what the settlers did to pass time in the winter Join the Hocking Hills State Park Naturalist at the Naturalist Cabin behind the Visitors Center at Old Man's Cave to participate in some historical games and activities to help you prepare for the upcoming winter months. Jan 28 - Winter Raptor Watch 10 am. Join the naturalist down at the Naturalist Cabinlocated behind the Old Mans Cave Visitor Center to discover why hawks, owls, eagles vultures are more noticeable in the winter and what makes them so special. Feb 11 - Sweet Second Saturday 5-8pm. On the second Saturday of each month, we dress up the dining room and have live music great dinner specials. You can even bring a bottle of wine, if you like. Mar 12 - John Gorka. Cost: $17-$30. Time: 8:00pm - 10:00pm. Stuart's Opera House, 52 Public Square, Nelsonville, OH 45764. Registration/Reservations required. 740-753-1924. Rolling Stone calls John Gorka "the leading singer/songwriter of the New Folk movement." Gorka has been playing folk music all around the country for about 25 years, putting out his 11th album this year. Energetic acoustic music that is not a trend, not a fad, but an expression of everyday life, is his trademark.

Discover the many methods used throughout history to make this tasty treat. Free samples are available.
